The Lost Excavation Collages

In the summer of 2014, I received an invitation from my friend and fellow artist, Svenja Wahl, to create 22 original collages for a zine project that she was planning to publish. I accepted, and sent her 22 originals which subsequently were lost in the mail... such are the risks of mail art!

Thankfully, I had scanned them before putting them in the post. What you see on this blog are those scans. Perhaps some day the originals will find their way to Svenja ... excavated from the piles of mail, so to speak.

My idea was to use as a catalyst an original work that Svenja had sent me for a zine I published called !DUH!. The title of the magazine page she used in her work is in German and translates to "Autosuggestion" in English. I tried to excavate parts of myself and I relied on autosuggestion to do so. The collages are my effort to translate those thoughts and feelings which surfaced, excavated from my subconscious. Each one is done using the tape transfer method.
